We transform environments where people live, work and play.
Our design strategy and interior design services achieve focus through a curated process of investigation, evaluation, & creation.
What We Do
Our integrated engagement, planning, and design services provide a through-line from project inception to completion and beyond. Together with you, we evaluate and leverage stakeholder contribution and diverse perspectives to craft holistic and meaningful results, enabling educators, learners, and your community to evolve and thrive long after our job is done.
Educational Planning
Educational environments and cultivating vibrant, equitable learning opportunities are key to our future. Creating, maintaining, and evolving these environments requires short-term and long-term holistic planning and deep care. As translators of your educational vision to spatial results, our Educational Planning process pulls from key learner and curriculum factors to inform space programming and long-range planning direction, and ultimately innovative and forward-thinking facilities.
-
We understand that pedagogical approaches to education differ from school to school and institution to institution. We also know that each approach has spatial and programmatic implications. Regardless of the educational approach from teacher-centered to constructivist to project-based learning to Montessori to the Reggio Emilia, and more, our team will work with you to understand how learning happens at your specific school and ways in which your buildings, classrooms, and outdoor spaces might support that. Our process includes interviewing teachers to understand instructional needs, students to understand their learning needs, and administrators to understand their overall operational needs. We prioritize people and learning, not just buildings.
-
Led by our three Accredited Learning Environment Planners (ALEP), we develop and document the space and functional needs of your project. From pre-K through higher education, we understand the different considerations for various age groups, educational delivery models, and requirements from entities such as NYSED, MSBA, NH DoE, NY SUCF, and others for planning and design standards.
-
Whether you’re looking to verify space use, reorganize, or consolidate or expand facilities, our expertise in both design and planning provides the needed lens for space utilization analysis, capacity studies, educational adequacy assessments, and test fit scenarios. Overlaying this our enrollment and demographic analysis ensures the program modification recommendations account for community changes over time.

Neuro-inclusive design offers unique perspectives and problem-solving strategies for better teaching and learning modules. Alongside educators, we strive to create learning environments and enriching spaces that allow students to participate fully regardless of ability, background, language, or learning style. Our goals remain the same – To foster an environment in which creativity, discovery, and adaptation are centered around educational practices.
We understand that many key components in the physical environment, instructional approaches, school cultures, assessments, and policies must be considered when designing inclusive environments. This process begins by building a shared understanding of values, conducting a barrier audit, gathering information from multiple sources, setting clear goals, and co-designing solutions with educators. We believe that space design should support sensory needs, promote independence, allow flexible teaching methods, provide choice in seating and grouping, and foster belonging and psychological safety for optimal learning.
Community Engagement
For every educational planning or design project, we practice Community Engagement, bringing stakeholders into the process as active contributors, helping to shape the planning process and design outcomes. We have a wide range of tools to create engagements that are authentic to each community, meeting stakeholders where they are now, while supporting the vision for the future.
Our approach is designed around your community’s unique needs, built on a proven framework that fosters trust, collaboration, and meaningful results.
-
We start by getting to know your stakeholders—what matters to them, what motivates them, and how your project aligns with their goals. Setting shared expectations from the beginning builds trust and sets the stage for open, effective communication.
-
Together, we define what success looks like—identifying the experiences, outcomes, and long-term goals that will shape the project and strengthen your community’s future. It’s not about asking what you want but unearthing the deepest potential of your future.
-
As ideas and designs evolve, we work side by side with stakeholders to explore options, gather feedback, and refine concepts through dynamic, participatory dialogue.
-
We tailor communication methods to your audience—using familiar, effective channels that keep everyone informed and aligned throughout the project, promoting transparency and understanding.
-
Meaningful participation is at the heart of our work. From hands-on design sessions and pop-ups at local events to videos and interactive surveys, we meet people where they are. This isn’t about checking boxes—it’s about creating genuine ownership and lasting impacts.
-
We track engagement at every stage—combining community feedback with data from surveys, events, and online activity—to ensure broad and inclusive participation and gauge understanding and community sentiment.
This framework is present throughout our approach, for all services and deliverables required of your project. This can take many forms, including
✔ Student engagement activities
✔ Faculty, educator, and staff engagement sessions
✔ Community workshops, forums, presentations, and hands-on activities
✔ Pop-up events, tabling sessions, and community event participation
✔ Digital surveys
✔ Website content development
✔ Communication / outreach content development
✔ Video content development
Facilities Design
We believe that design has the power to positively impact society, enrich life and education, and work in harmony with the natural environment. As interior designers, we champion the user experience, crafting intentional, human-centered spaces that support health and wellness. Building on this foundation, we design transformative spaces that help users and learners discover and thrive, bringing your vision and goals to life in the built environment.
-
Whether the project involves targeted interior interventions, comprehensive renovations, or new construction, we intentionally craft interior environments with careful attention to user needs and a cohesive integration with the overall architectural design. From space programming and planning to complete interior fit-outs—including finishes, millwork, ceilings and lighting, and specialty elements—we provide comprehensive interior design services using Revit and support the design process from conceptual development through construction administration.
-
Vaysen Studio delivers a tailored, responsive FF&E design approach aligned with each project’s educational or spatial needs. Our work integrates seamlessly with architectural design, to ensure an efficient and transparent process, and utilize Revit to provide accurate design visualizations to support decision making.
-
At Vaysen Studio, the health, wellness, and resilience of your community are central to every design. From understanding and capitalizing on building orientation and daylighting, to evaluating material health and exploring sustainable procurement options, we integrate sustainability into the design process to ensure the well-being of users, the broader community, and the natural environment. With expertise in LEED certification, the Living Building Challenge, and other sustainable building standards, we address both the qualitative impacts and the quantitative requirements of sustainable design practices.
